Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson took to the red carpet on Saturday evening at the Cannes Film Festival for the premiere of Die, My Love, the latest feature from Scottish director Lynne Ramsay. Marking her return after a seven-year absence, Ramsay’s new film arrives as a bold and divisive work that has already sparked conversation along the Croisette.
Based on the novel by Argentine writer Ariana Harwicz, the story has been relocated from the French countryside of the book to a remote, rural corner of the United States. This shift in setting enhances the film’s sense of isolation, placing its characters in a landscape that feels both expansive and suffocating.
At its core, Die, My Love is a psychological drama that explores the unsettling terrain of postpartum depression. Lawrence plays Grace, a writer and new mother struggling to maintain her sense of self while living in seclusion with her husband Jackson, portrayed by Pattinson. As her mental state begins to unravel, Grace resists the expectations placed upon her, drifting into a world marked by hallucinations, emotional volatility, and growing disorder.
Ramsay’s direction leans into this instability, crafting a film that is as visually striking as it is emotionally intense. The result is a story that challenges viewers, offering a raw and often uncomfortable look at identity, motherhood, and mental health.
